To measure the Iodide ion concentration in each of your solutions you will use standards. You will compare the intensity of the green light absorbed with the concentrations of the iodide ion solutions used to make them.

...

The %T values you collect will be converted to ABSORBANCE using the BLANK and plotted against the known concentrations to produce a standard curve.
From this curve you will be able to determine [I-] remaining in solution in your equilibration experiments.

Solutions used in this experiment must be at equilibrium!

On the right are two solutions.

Which is more likely to be in equilibrium?

The iodine generated in this experiment, in addition to allowing you to calculate iodide concentrations present at equilibrium, provides some interestion features.

When spilled on white paper, it acts as a dark blue ink.
