SIG FIGS in reading a THERMOMETER

The thermometer shown here is graduated to 0.2°C. You should try to read it to at least 0.05° .

On the right, the thermometer reads 25.90°C.
The mercury column is half way between the 25.8° and 26.0° marks.

In reading temperatures at this accurately be aware that changes can easily occur. Radiation of body heat while simply looking at the thermometer, raised the temperature of this thermometer in less than a minute.

This new temperature reading is shown on the left. The temperature reads... 25.95°C.
The mercury column is now just a hair below the 26.0°C mark.
